Getting started

Not only is the festival an action-packed family day out, it also offers visitors the chance to learn, build on their experiences and gain advice from the many experts at hand.

Whether you are after some advice, a piece of machinery, some information on buying a property or a new chicken, the Smallholder Centre, located in the South Glamorgan Exhibition Hall,  is the place for you.

Aspiring smallholders will be able to visit the ‘Getting Started’ stand, sponsored by Agri Wales, where you will be able to ask for guidance, speak to experts, pick up some literature and be advised where else to visit within the festival to get the most out of your visit and the information you need.

At the desk you will find a range of specially produced ‘getting started’ guides*, written by the many volunteers and stewards from the Spring Festival.

The Smallholder Centre also includes the popular Speakers Corner, presented by Country Smallholding magazine, with free talks on a range of subjects including beekeeping, buying and keeping chickens, viable self-sufficiency, a smallholders’ question time, perfect pigs, organic growing and living on one acre.
