Louise Owen Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the most promising junior shearer in Wales.
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society is pleased to support a scholarship of £1,000 in memory of Sarah Louise Owen.
This scholarship was first introduced in 2014 in memory of Louise Owen who was an accomplished woolhandler and travelled widely across the globe. To preserve her legacy, the family have kindly established this scholarship to provide a junior shearer with the opportunity to develop and advance their skills in sheep shearing.
The scholarship will be awarded to the junior shearer showing greatest promise and will be used to help fund a trip to New Zealand in the autumn of 2017. The successful candidate will be given advanced training and will work with a pre-arranged shearing contractor.
All applicants must:-
a) be a junior shearer,
b) reside in Wales, and
c) must not have won the scholarship in the past.
The scholarship will be awarded to the junior shearer who:-
a) has shown consistent ability throughout the season of Welsh shearing shows,
b) can demonstrate a commitment and desire to improve their shearing ability, and
c) has been identified as one of the most promising shearers in Wales.
Applicants are asked to complete the attached application form and will be assessed against the award criteria outlined above.
Successful candidates will be presented with a certificate at the 2018 Royal Welsh Show and will be expected to write an article for the Society's journal on return from their trip.
The closing date for applications is the 1st October 2017 and shortlisted candidates will asked to attend an informal interview in front of the selection panel.
