SHOWGROUND
The 150 acre Royal Welsh Showground is open all year round. We host an array of exciting events set against the spectacular views of the Welsh countryside.
The Showground boasts many different venues catering for a variety of occasions such as weddings, business meetings, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and much more.

Louise Owen Memorial Scholarship applications now open
The Louise Owen Memorial Scholarship
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society is pleased to support a scholarship of £1,000 in memory of Sarah Louise Owen, which will be awarded to the most promising junior shearer in Wales.
This scholarship was first introduced in 2014 in memory of Louise Owen who was an accomplished woolhandler and travelled widely across the globe. To preserve her legacy, the family have kindly established this scholarship to provide a junior shearer with the opportunity to develop and advance their skills in sheep shearing.
The scholarship will be awarded to the junior shearer showing greatest promise and will be used to help fund a trip to New Zealand in the autumn of 2024. The successful candidate will be given advanced training and will work with a pre-arranged shearing contractor.
Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must:-
- Be a junior shearer
- Be prepared to spend a minimum of 3 months working in New Zealand for one contractor whose name will be on the work visa
- Be 26 years of age or under on the first day of the 2023 Royal Welsh Show
- Reside in Wales
- Not have won the scholarship in the past
Award Criteria
The scholarship will be awarded to the junior shearer who:-
- Has shown consistent ability throughout the season of Welsh shearing shows
- Can demonstrate a commitment and desire to improve their shearing ability
- Has been identified as one of the most promising shearers in Wales
Applicants are asked to complete the attached application form and will be assessed against the award criteria outlined above. This scholarship is open to all Welsh junior shearers.
Successful candidates will be presented with a certificate at the 2024 Royal Welsh Show and will be expected to write an article for the Society’s journal on return from their trip.
The closing date for applications is the 4th October 2023 and shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an informal interview in front of the selection panel.
