Meirion Owen and the Quack Pack

Meirion is a very accomplished and well-respected sheepdog handler, judge and event organiser. He started sheepdog trialling at the age of nine and has since gone on to win many competitions including the Welsh National Sheepdog Championship. He has also captained the Welsh team at the International Sheep Dog Trials.

Meirion is a life member and Council member of the International Sheep Dog Society and past Welsh President of the Society. Judging assignments have taken Meirion all over the globe, and he was honoured to be invited to judge the very first World Sheep Dog Trial in Bala. Meirion also headed the organising committee for the very successful World Sheep Dog Trials held in Llandeilo.

A farmer born and bred, Meirion has been around border collies all his life. He is the third generation of his family to be involved in the art of training, competing and demonstrating with his border collies all over the country.

Meirion appears regularly on TV and has been on three series of the very popular BBC programme 'One Man and His Dog.'  He has been featured on many TV programmes including the BBC ‘Countryfile’, ‘The One Show’, SKY1 ‘Pet Nation’ and recently on the ‘Farmers Country Showdown’ and ‘Songs of Praise.’

Meirion's sheep dog and duck demonstrations are designed to showcase the amazing talents of border collies and the communication between handler and dog. His demonstrations are informative, educational and highly entertaining. They are also interactive, allowing hands-on adult and children participation. Meirion provides his own humorous commentary as he uses a combination of commands to guide his dogs and cooperative (and sometimes uncooperative) Indian Runner ducks around a course that includes tunnels, slides and pens.

Today, Meirion and the Quack Pack tour the country performing at regional and national shows, as well as private events and also provide customised team building programmes for a range of corporate clients.
