Premier Open Dog Show 2013, Best in Show winner
More than 1000 dogs and their owners will converge on the Royal Welsh showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, in May to compete for the prizes at the only premier open dog show held in Wales.
The ‘Premier Open Show’ status has been granted to the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s canine section by the Kennel Club for the sixth successive year, once again making it a qualifier for Crufts, the world’s largest dog show.
The premier open show is one of the big attractions for visitors to the two-day Royal Welsh Spring Festival on 17 – 18 May when many prize winning dogs will go on to join over 20,000 other top dogs to appear at the famous four-day Crufts show in March 2015.
There are more than 200 breeds in Britain and dogs of all shapes, sizes and colours will be appearing at the Spring Festival.
“Their owners bring their dogs from across the UK to compete at the Spring Festival.” said the dog show honorary secretary, Mrs Julie Howells. “We are again looking forward to a big turnout this year with more than 75 breeds listed in the schedule, mainly as terriers, gundogs, hounds, toy dogs, working, utility and pastoral breeds.”
The judging of the breeds will take place over the two days of the festival.
Owners wishing to enter their dogs into the competition can do so online at www.fossedata.co.uk
This prestigious dog show is just one of many attractions planned for this year’s festival. As the number one event for smallholding, gardening and sustainable living with a huge range of competitions, classes, exhibitors, attractions, the festival has something to offer everyone.
As in previous years there will be floral and horticultural displays, gardeners question time, vintage machinery displays, BASC gundog display, farmers’ market, scurry driving, show jumping and working hunter classes and new for this year, a forestry area and chainsaw carving display.
