Royal Welsh Chief Exec Challenge raises £3,000 for Radnor 2014 Feature County
1 July 2014
Chief Executive, Steve Hughson and Assistant Chief Executive, Aled Jones present this years President, Rhian Duggan, with a cheque for £3,000.
It might have taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but it was all for a good cause.
Having battled their way through a tough day of gruelling challenges, the top pair at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society were able to present this years president, Mrs Rhian Duggan, with a cheque for £3,000 to go towards their feature county funds at the society’s Annual General Meeting last week.
The newly created Chief Exec’s Challenge took place in May after both Steve Hughson and Aled Jones had decided it was time to show their appreciation of hard work and fundraising done in the name of society. The pair threw down the gauntlet and asked the feature counties, (this year Radnor), to set them a sponsored challenge to make their own contribution to the county’s efforts.
The challenge involved;
a lap of the Cwmythig Hill motocross circuit on a mountain bike
a clay pigeon shoot against the chair and secretary of Radnor Advisory Committee Area 1
a gruelling hill run up over Radnor Forest
a sheep shearing task competing against some of Wales’ top shearers
a two-hour horse trek
a sprit to Llandrindod golf course
a putting and driving range golfing challenge
and finally, take a two-man canoe around Llandrindod Wells lake
On receiving the cheque, Mrs Duggan said: “We are extremely grateful to Steve and Aled for their support and help with our fundraising. Organising the challenge was great fun and it not only helped boost our funds, but also showcased our beautiful county and brought together people from all over Radnorshire.
“We are looking forward to seeing what Gwent feature county will come up with for their challenge in 2015.”
A special mention must be made of the hard work done by those of the Radnor Advisory Committee who organised the day, the gracious hosts for all the challenges and the generosity of all the sponsors, including; Principality Building Society, JCP Solicitors, NFU Cymru, the ‘Merlin Sportive’ Cycle Ride ITV Cymru, Petersens PR, TLP Construction, NFU Mutual, Showtime Security, Rees Richards, Geerings Print, Brightwells, McCartneys, Caerfagu Products and Edward Perkins Chartered Surveyors.
Radnor are raising money to build an extension and improve the facilities at Neuadd Henllan, the stockman’s accommodation. Details of other Radnor 2014 fundraising events can be found by visiting www.rwas.co.uk
