Chief Exec’s Challenge – Gwent 2015
12 May 2015
Keeping their promise to take part, do their bit and thank the feature counties for all their hard work and fund raising efforts, Steve Hughson and Aled Jones are once again embarking on a ‘Chief Exec’s Challenge’.
This year the challenge has been set by the 2015 Royal Welsh feature county of Gwent and the pair are preparing to step up to the mark whilst being sponsored to help boost the county’s fund raising efforts.
A normal day for the Chief Executive and Assistant Chief Executive here at the Royal Welsh usually involves countless meetings, numerous telephone calls and a deluge of emails. But on Saturday 23 May, they will swap their brogues for a pair of trainers and get stuck in to a days worth of tough and demanding activities.
Starting at 8am, the hefty challenge will include:
a 2 hour trip in a two-man canoe down the River Wye
a 1 hour bike ride to Chepstow Castle
a surprise challenge (involving a army climbing wall… shush, don’t tell them)
a tandem bike ride with other members of the Gwent organising committee
a golf contest
and finally over to the Celtic Manor for a zip wire tree top challenge concluding with a freefall ‘Power Fan Descender’
But that’s not all. The series of activities really begins at this weekend’s Royal Welsh Spring Festival, where the top duo will be taking part in the new Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival on Sunday 17 May as their first leg of the Chief Exec’s Challenge.

“We are always humbled and astonished by the hard work and incredible efforts of the Royal Welsh feature counties each year. Not only do they promote and raise the profile of the society, but they also work tirelessly fundraising for money which goes towards improving site here at the showground. This year Gwent are raising money to improve the equine facilities.” explains Chief Executive, Steve Hughson
“By taking on this challenge once again we are able to say a big thank you for the fundraising efforts of the feature county and aim to contribute to their total by getting sponsored to complete these action-packed challenges.” added Assistant Chief Executive, Aled Jones.
