Calling all junior shearers!

Junior shearers from across Wales are invited to apply for next year’s Royal Welsh Louise Owen Memorial Scholarship.

The £1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the junior shearer in Wales showing greatest promise and will be used to help fund a trip to New Zealand in the autumn of 2016. The successful candidate will be given advanced training and will work with a pre-arranged shearing contractor.

Louise was an accomplished wool handler and travelled widely across the globe. In her memory, Louise’s family established the Louise Owen Memorial Scholarship to provide a junior shearer with the opportunity to develop and advance their skills in sheep shearing.

Edward Davies of Llanwddyn, Powys became the very first recipient of the Royal Welsh Louise Owen Memorial Scholarship and was presented with his certificate at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.

“We are truly thankful to the generosity of Louise’s family and are delighted that promising young shearers will benefit from this incredible opportunity” say’s Mr Peter Guthrie, Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Chairman of the Sheep Shearing Committee.
