Once again the Royal Welsh Spring Festival on 21 and 22 May is gearing up to be the ultimate celebration of smallholding and rural life.
Taking place at the showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, the Royal Welsh Spring Festival is a fantastic two-day event with hundreds of hotly contested competitions, an action-packed programme of entertainment, many have-a-go educational activities, displays and main ring performances.
One of the most popular attractions of the festival is the huge array of livestock on display, including traditional, rare and native breeds, and the full schedule of nearly 400 livestock classes and special awards running throughout the weekend.
Available online now, the Spring Festival livestock schedule has also been emailed to thousands of smallholders and potential exhibitors, and lists the usual full range of competitions for sheep, pigs, goats and cattle.
“Preparations for this year’s Royal Welsh Spring Festival are in full swing and we are looking forward to hosting another successful event.” says Kay Spencer, Honorary Spring Festival Director. “New exhibitors are always welcome at the festival and with the large mix of classes available there is something for everyone to participate in and enjoy.”
New for this year, we are excited to introduce a stand-alone section for Dexter Cattle. This is a Dexter Cattle Society show points event with a chance of winning a much sought after Champion Dexter Spoon.
“The Dexter Cattle Society are delighted to work closely with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society to set up a new section for pedigree Dexter classes for the first time at this years’ Spring Festival.” says Mrs Philippa Laing, President of the Dexter Cattle Society. “As with all Pedigree Dexter Classes the champion on the day will receive the Dexter Cattle Society Rosette and Silver Spoon.”
“Not only will our exhibitors be competing and promoting themselves in this wonderful part of Wales but they will have superb facilities to do so. It is always wonderful to know that these new show classes have been created and we very much look forward to an exciting show.” added Mrs Laing.
A new Dexter Cattle section has been set up for the first time at this years’ Spring Festival, where exhibitors can compete for a chance of winning a much sought after Champion Dexter Spoon.
Along with the many different competitions and livestock exhibitors, visitors will also be able to enjoy the huge range of other attractions and an action-packed programme of events all weekend. There will be hundreds of other livestock competitions going on, a Premier Open Dog Show, gardening displays, vintage machinery displays, a dedicated Smallholder Centre, a Food and Drink Quarter, Country Life area and much more…
The closing date for livestock entries is 1 April (8 April for dairy goats only). For copies of the schedule and entry forms, please visit www.rwas.wales or call Rhian Davies on 01982 554408.
