M&S ‘FARMING FOR THE FUTURE’ AWARD

 

Ieuan Jones from Pennybwlch farm, Aberystwyth, and Justin Scale from Capestone Organic Poultry in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, have made it onto the shortlist of this year’s prestigious M&S ‘Farming for the Future’ awards. They will find out who has been crowned Wales winner on the first day of the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells on 22nd July.

LOCAL FLAVOUR WITH M&S AT ROYAL WELSH SHOW

New App for Royal Welsh Show

Visitors to the Royal Welsh Show will have a brand new handy aid to help them locate instantly any of the events and attractions taking place on the showground.

A Royal Welsh Show App has been developed through a joint venture between the RWAS and S4C.  It is bilingual and includes a full timetable of events and competitions together with the latest results.  A media section includes pictures, stories, blogs and videos from the showground.

Ceredigion farmer wins grassland award



A dairy farmer from Ceredigion has won the prestigious Grassland Farming Competition for 2013 run by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and the Federation of Welsh Grassland Societies.

Andrew Owen of Pantygwail, Dihewyd, Lampeter, who was also a finalist this year in the All Wales Clamp Silage Competition, emerged the clear winner among competitors from the Grassland Society’s five Welsh regions.

Royal Welsh appoints Assistant Chief Executive

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has appointed Aled Jones, aged 27, of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire as Assistant Chief Executive of the organisation.  He will join the staff of the society in September, working alongside Steve Hughson, who took over as the new Chief Executive of the Royal Welsh in May.

A chartered surveyor and agricultural valuer, Aled joined the Carmarthenshire firm of Rees Richards & Partners, Chartered Surveyors and Land Agents, as an assistant land agent in 2007 and became a partner of the firm in January this year.

Visit the Countryside Care area at Royal Welsh Show

Visitors to the Royal Welsh Show, particularly farmers who may be seeking information or advice on environmental issues, are being encouraged by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society to go to the showground’s Countryside Care area during the four-day event at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, (July 22-25).

One of the most interesting and important sections of the show, it was created in 1990 as an extension of the Country Pursuits area in response to increasing public awareness of nature conservation and wildlife.

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visit Royal Welsh Show

Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have accepted an invitation to visit this year’s Royal Welsh Show and they will be at Llanelwedd for the third day of the event, Wednesday July 24.

“The society is delighted to announce the royal visit and we are honoured that both the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are to join us this year,” said the new chief executive of the RWAS, Steve Hughson.
