Spring Festival Profiles

Here’s Cole Burgess and he’s 11yrs old. He was born with a genetic condition known as Oculocutaneous albinism which affects my sight, he is registered severely sight impaired. But if we hadn't told you, you wouldn't realise as he copes with his condition admirably. He’s a happy fun loving kid who takes everything on.

He’s with Llangeinor Pony Club and loves trying new disciplines and giving everything a go. He defeats all odds with things we never thought he'd cope with. But his favourite discipline is show jumping. He’s made great friends within the club and receives support from them along with their lovely parents. He loves getting out as part of a jumping team.

We have not been to the Spring Festival before, we heard about it from parents and children within the pony club who came and had great fun last year.

Coles looking forward to riding in a big arena in a busy show. He loves crowds watching! Although wouldn't have ridden with so many people about before.

He’s extra excited to be coming to a big show where he can go off with his friends and have a look at the stalls and other exhibitors around the show which he’s taking part in.

Best of Luck to you Cole!

Hello, we are Andy and Tess Chilvers. Together with our 2 sons, we run the country supplies business from our farm at Llangunllo, Knighton, selling all animal husbandry equipment, animal health, feed and showing supplies, as well as farming 500 sheep.

We have been visiting the Spring Festival for many years as spectators but since buying the business as a going concern 4 years ago, we take our business with us in a 9m show trailer serving the showing people and farmers alike.

To us the best thing about the show is the quality of livestock being shown there and the great atmosphere and personalities of the showing world. There is something for everyone from the livestock being shown, horses, poultry, gardening supplies, shopping and retail facilities and much more. A great venue and fantastic atmosphere.

We are very much looking forward to attending this year, please come and see us at this year’s Spring Festival.

Hello All, I’m Paul from P & J Plants

I have been in Horticulture since I was 16 years. I worked on nurseries throughout the Midlands learning propagation/ tree and shrub growing/ stock control and marketing.

In 1979 I started my own business growing Heathers wholesale, after 5 years the market started to drop with fashion changes. So looking through Horticultural Week magazine I spotted an ad for Carnivorous Plant business for sale in Somerset. I went to look and bought the lot and brought it up to Hereford. That was 1987 and I have been growing them ever since. They are amazing plants!

I have been displaying and selling since 1987 doing Chelsea Flower show and over 30 shows a year all over the UK. We have attended the Spring Festival at Builth for over 15 years. By now I have retired from major shows but find the Spring Festival a very friendly and busy event.

The Spring Festival has a wide range of displays, activities/and it’s a reasonable price for the public.

Please pop and see us at this year’s Spring Festival in the Welcome Centre (Members Centre).

Hello my name is Liz Powell, and a competitor in the Horse Section in the Spring Festival.

Over the past few years myself, 5 children and 3 grandchildren have visited the Spring Festival.

3 years ago my youngest daughter decided she’d love to compete in the Working Hunter Class, she was lucky enough to be placed 3rd and 4th in her classes. In the same year my grandson had also had a lucky show picking up a 2nd prize in the coloured lead rein class.

2018 Spring Festival will be a busy event for us with the grandchildren competing in a variety of classes - history is repeating itself. The Spring Festival has become a family event for us with the whole family coming along to support.

One top tip I’d give you, wear comfortable shoes because there’s lots to see and do at the Spring Festival.

Good Luck to all competing and hope you all have a great Spring Festival.

I’m Keith Brown a Chief Steward in the Pig Section at the Spring Festival.

I have exhibited Pigs at the Spring Festival for over 25 years when the event was called the Smallholders Show, over the years the event has grown with the Pig Section out growing a number of the buildings from the Fur and Feather Building and part of the Glamorgan Hall but the pigs are now in Hall 2.

The Spring Festival is one of the best shows in the country and is a grate weekend out for the whole family. The event is highly educational with a variety of educational activities for the whole family with have-a-go areas across the event.

Make sure you come over to the Livestock Section of the Spring Festival to see a wide range of different animals. Hope you all have a great Spring Festival.
